MicroChem Lab was established with the following vision:
- Promotion of awareness of the need in performing school chemistry experiments in small scale.
- Provision of opportunities to acquire necessary skills that transform creative ideas to innovative designs.
- Maintenance of a life-long “Green Awareness”.
Advantages enjoyed by performing micro-scale chemistry experiments include:
- Low cost
- Low level of reagent consumption
- Low level of pollution
- High level of safety
- Time saving
- Implementation incentive
About the Program
Micro-scale chemistry experiments and instruments introduced in the two STEM Programs are targeting, as extension materials, at meeting requirements set by the Hong Kong DSE Chemistry Syllabus. The innovative qualitative and quantitative instruments are not available commercially and have to be self-made. STEM Program (1) includes topics in acquiring manual and electronic skills for constructing the instruments. STEM Program (2) is devoted to designs of innovative micro-scale experiments and instruments which requires participants to possess skills depicted in Program (1).
It is expected that combination of the two Programs can achieve STEM advancement in syllabus-based DSE school chemistry. Ability to self-construct mentioned instruments with micro-scale applications in school experiments forecast the vision of enhancing students’ “Green Awareness” with local resources.
The two Programs are intended to serve as reference materials mainly for teachers and laboratory technicians. Students may find them useful as a practical tool for STEM innovations.
Provision of the Programs is self-designed and actualized by MicroChem Lab and not related in any form to official educational institutes.
Copyright-waived Programs
As the Programs aim at promoting self-reliance of experimental and instrumental designs, plagiarism is not a problem of the published materials. MicroChem lab actually encourages participants to copy, use and further improve the designs. Any means of conversion of online materials into commercial use is legally prohibited.
